Pegasus Awards | ![]() |
The Pegasus Awards are awarded annually at the Ohio Valley Filk Fest (OVFF) to recognize the best filk songs and performers. Winners are selected by a vote of the filk community. Currently awards are given in five categories: Best Song, Best Performer, Best Writer and 2 topical categories that vary from year to year. Examples of past categories include: Best Love Song, Best Literature Song, and Best Techie Song.
Anyone with an interest in filk can nominate songs or individuals for the awards and anyone can vote. Typically, the OVFF convention committee solicits nominations for the Pegasus Awards during the spring. Ballots are distributed in late/summer early fall and must be returned by the opening night of the OVFF. The process is administered by the OVFF convention committee.
M.A.S.S. F.I.L.C. has published a songbook, The Pegasus Winners, Volume I, with the lyrics and, for original tunes, the sheet music for most of the award winning songs from 1984-1993.
Love Song Productions has produced a tape, The Pegasus Winners, Collection 1. It has recordings of a slightly different sub-set of the Pegasus Winning songs from the time period as the songbook. The tape is currently out of print, but the company plans to re-master and re-release it.
