If you want to know who we are...
MASSFILC, Inc. is a small, non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization devoted to furthering the art of filk in Massachusetts and beyond. Its mission is to give people more opportunities to perform, hear filk performers, exchange songs, and improve musical skills. Its mission is also to bring filk to a wider audience and teach people about this small but growing genre of music. It is governed by its bylaws.
Anybody can join MASSFILC There are no membership dues. Membership is determined by participation in and attendance at our activities.
MASSFILC's funding comes from donations, sales of songbooks and t-shirts, and occasional conventions. Our next filk convention is ConCertino 2012.
People often ask, "What does MASSFILC stand for?". The answer is nothing. The name is not an acronym; although, several attempts have been made to retrofit the initials. Typically, the name is pronounced as if it were written 'Massfilc'. Another common question is, "why is MASSFILC spelled with a 'C', not a 'K'?" There is a tradition in science fiction fandom of warping words and spellings and we're just keeping that tradition alive.
Our officers are:
- President: Joe Kesselman
- Clerk: Gary McGath
- Treasurer: Ellen Kranzer
