NEFilk

Since 1990, there has been a filk convention in the northeastern US almost every year. It started with ConCerto in 1990, run by the Kabakjians, then went to MASSFILC after the next two ConCerti ran into problems. MASSFILC modestly named its con ConCertino, meaning "a small concerto." No organization wanted to run a convention every year, so several groups agreed to rotate. The conventions were ConCertino in Massachusetts, Conterpoint in the area from Baltimore to DC, and Contata in the New York City area. There was also one more ConCerto, though an entirely different group ran it.

After a while a consensus developed that the conventions needed a more unified brand, so they adopted the umbrella name of NEFilk with a logo by Matt Leger.

In 2020 the COVID epidemic forced cancellation of the planned convention, and an online convention was held in its place, using the name NEWhere (pronounced "anywhere," not "new here").

There are currently plans for another in-person convention. Watch this space. For the present, nefilk.org shares Web hosting with MASSFILC. If and when the convention plans become more definite, this may change.
